John Whitmer recorded this text possibly in late April 1832 in Revelation Book 1, where it is designated “A Sample of pure Language given by Joseph the Seer as copied by Br Johnson.” John Johnson may have drafted the original (but no longer extant) document at his farm in Hiram, Ohio, in March 1832 while JS resided there. This text appears in Revelation Book 1 immediately after an explanation of portions of the Revelation of John and may be related to that work.
Throughout this document, “Awmen” was changed to “Awman,” probably later by an unidentified scribe or possibly by John Whitmer at the time of inscription. In other texts, “Awman” is also given as “Aw-Man,” “Ahman,” and “Ah man.” These variations eventually became standardized as “Ahman.” In addition, instances in this document of “Son Awmen” could also be read as “San Awmen.”
