14 May 18141–10 Feb. 1878.2 Clerk, postmaster, merchant, clothier, banker.3 Born at Pawlet, Rutland Co., Vermont.4 Baptized into LDS church and moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, by 1836.5 Clerk and recorder for Kirtland high council, beginning Jan. 1836.6 Married Athalia Rigdon, oldest daughter of Sidney Rigdon, 13 Apr. 1837 in Kirtland.7 In Sept. 1837, appointed general church recorder to replace Oliver Cowdery.8 Moved to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, 28 Mar. 1838.9 Sustained as general church recorder and clerk to First Presidency at Far West, Apr. 1838.10 Imprisoned with JS and other church leaders in Missouri, Nov. 1838.11 Ordained a seventy, 20 Dec. 1836.12 Moved to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, winter 1839.13 Moved to Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, before 1840.14 Appointed first postmaster in Nauvoo, Apr. 1840.15 Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge.16 Left LDS church, by July 1842.17 Moved to Cuba, Allegany Co., New York, by 1846.18 Affiliated with Sidney Rigdon’s Church of Christ as an apostle.19 Moved to Friendship, Allegany Co., 1847.20 Charter member of Masonic lodge in that community.21 Founder and president of First National Bank, 1 Feb. 1864.22 Died at Friendship.23
