Biography

29 Dec. 1799–14 June 1873. Farmer, carpenter. Born in Columbia Co., New York. Son of Peter Decker and Hanna Snooks. Moved to Phelps, Ontario Co., New York, by Aug. 1820. Married first Harriet Page Wheeler, 1820, in Phelps. Moved to Freedom, Cattaraugus Co., New York. Moved to New Portage, Medina Co., Ohio, where baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Received elder’s license, 23 May 1836, in Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio. Moved to Kirtland, by fall 1837. Donated his wealth to church while in Ohio. Moved to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, 1838; to Daviess Co., Missouri; back to Far West; to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois; to Winchester, Scott Co., Illinois; and to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1841. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Divorced wife, before 1843, in Nauvoo. Ordained a high priest, before 24 Dec. 1845. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley, 1847. Moved to Midway, Wasatch Co., Utah Territory, by 1870. Moved to Salt Lake City, after 1870. Died in Salt Lake City.
