7 Apr. 17971–16 July 1881.2 Farmer, painter, glazier.3 Born at Hopkinton, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.4 Son of John Young and Abigail (Nabby) Howe.5 Moved to Auburn, Cayuga Co., New York, before 1830.6 Joined Methodist church, before Apr. 1832.7 Baptized into LDS church by Daniel Bowen, 6 Apr. 1832, at Columbia, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.8 Ordained an elder by Ezra Landon, Apr. 1832.9 Served mission to New York, spring 1832.10 Served mission to Upper Canada, summer 1832.11 Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, fall 1832.12 Served mission to Upper Canada, winter 1832–1833.13 Married Jane Adeline Bicknell, 18 Feb. 1834, at Geneseo, Livingston Co., New York.14 Participated in Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri, 1834.15 Ordained a seventy, 28 Feb. 1835, in Kirtland.16 Appointed a president of First Quorum of the Seventy, 1 Mar. 1835.17 Served missions to eastern states, 1835, 1836.18 Member of Kirtland Safety Society, 1837.19 Moved from Kirtland to Missouri, July–Oct. 1838, and witnessed massacre at Hawn’s Mill, Caldwell Co., Missouri.20 During exodus from Missouri, located temporarily at Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois.21 Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1840.22 Member of Nauvoo Legion, 1842.23 Admitted to Council of Fifty, 1 Mar. 1845.
