Founded and laid out, 1837.1 Unofficial county seat, beginning 1837.2 Officially named county seat, 1841.3 Several Latter-day Saints attempted to vote at Gallatin, 6 Aug. 1838, but were attacked by local residents.4 After Mormon-Missouri conflict erupted, Saints launched preemptive strike against vigilantes in Gallatin and other towns, Oct. 1838.5 JS’s final trial in Missouri held in Gallatin, Apr. 1839.6 See also “Daviess County.”
