Battle of Crooked River
25 October 1838
Armed Latter-day Saint men in Caldwell County, Missouri, attacked company of volunteers from Ray County regiment of state militia who had captured two Latter-day Saint scouts; three Latter-day Saints and one Ray County militiaman killed at Crooked River, near Ray County; JS remained in Far West but later that day visited Latter-day Saints as they returned from the skirmish, near Log Creek, Missouri.
