Having learned that a Mr Intends visiting the State of For the purpose as he says of avenging the wrongs of her injured Citizens and of bringing Joseph Smith to Condign punishment. Permit me as a Citizen of our beloved Republic; and one who loves and cherishes her institutions and respects her laws. To say that said possesses those feelings and sentiments in relation to Your beloved and happy state; which if carried out would Cause to become the scene of action for the same bloody Tradedgy! which was acted in Southhampton County Virginia; and of which the writer was unfortunately a witness— There the bodies of Fathers, Mothers and Children horribly mangled! murdered some of them in their own houses and by their own hearths: the smiling school boy on his way from home and there it was that the Mother was seen with tender infant in her arms to take shelter— in the woods while her peaceful and once happy home was burning in sight and could afford her no refuge.
