KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That We Joseph Smith Jr & of the county of — and State of are held and firmly bound unto David Mathews of the county of and State of his heirs and assigns in the sum of Six hundred one thousand dollars for the payment of which well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, firmly by these presents.
NOW THE CONDITION OF THE ABOVE OBLIGATION IS SUCH, that whereas, the said Joseph Smith Jr & have this day sold unto the said David MathewsaTwo certain lots of ground situated, lying and being in the county of and State of , and described on the plat of the Town of as being Lots No. one & Two in Block No. Forty Six—— and received in payment for said lots ten notes of hand bearing even date herewith, for the sum of Five hundred and fifty dollars, and payable as follows. with interest—
The first for Forty dollars on the first day of Oct A D 1840
The second for Forty Fifty six 66/100 dollars on the first of Oct A D 1841
The third for Fifty six 66/100 dollars on the first day of Oct A D 1842
The fourth for Fifty six 66/100 dollars on the first day of Oct A D 1843
The fifth for Fifty six 66/100 dollars on the first day of Oct A D 1844
The sixth for Fifty six 66/100 dollars on the first day of Oct A D 1845
The seventh for Fifty six 66/100 dollars on the first day of Oct A D 1846
The eighth for Fifty six 66/100 dollars on the first day of Oct A D 1847
The ninth for Fifty six 66/100 dollars on the first day of Oct A D 1848
The tenth for Fifty six 66/100 dollars on the first day of Oct A D 1849

Now if the said David Mathews his heirs, executors, or administrators shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid, the amount of said notes with such interest as may accrue thereon, according to the tenor and effect thereof, when due, we the said Joseph Smith Jr & bind ourselves our heirs, executors and administrators, to make or cause to be made, to the said David Mathews his heirs and assigns, a good and sufficient Deed for the above described lots at the expiration of Twenty years from the date hereof—— and then this Bond to become null and void, otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue.
