He believes is as good a place to enjoy our liberty as any other place. There is as little corruption & wickedness here as any where else. If their are the remains of the Indians here, we did not slay them. Let it be to the disgrace of the government. We are free, and their is not the first tie to bind us to the constitution. As soon as a man, or set of men becomes unpopular they can be murdered, robbed, banished, and no power to protect them. It is a law of nations that protection binds a man to his sovereign, but as soon as the law ceases to protect a man in his rights he is free. We, as a people have not been protected, consequently we are free. [p. [162]]
