Site location and groundbreaking occurred soon thereafter. The House of the Lord was completed and dedicated in March 1836. The phrase “solemn assembly” is found a number of times in the Old Testament, usually referring to a gathering of elders in a spirit of fasting and prayer. (See, for example, Joel 1:14; and 2:15.)

A 6 December 1832 revelation regarding Jesus’s parable of the wheat and the tares explained that “after the gathering of the wheat, behold and lo the tears [tares] are bound in bund[l]es, and the field remaineth to be burned.” (Revelation, 6 Dec. 1832 [D&C 86:7].)

Chapters 8 through 10 of Revelation discuss the sounding of seven trumpets by seven angels. The events associated with the sounding of the trumpets in John’s revelation, however, apparently do not correspond to the events presented in JS’s revelation.
