Know all men by these presents that I in consequence of Martial Law enforced by a mob in the City of and verily believing that said mob or portions of the same are seeking my life & those of my friends and it being impossible for me safely to go to to possess my premises, consequently in view of these outrages and I being credibly informed that my property is become common stock and my buildings occupied by an armed mob as a barracks therefore in contemplation of the certain evils and reported outrages such as I verily believe do exist I hereby authorize John Procter Junior John Proct[o]r Senior William Powers , P. T. Rolfe & [blank ] Howe to take immediate possession of all my buildings in and of my loose property around the same, and I hereby authorize them or any of them to clear the premises of all persons who may be occupying them or trespassing upon them and keep them under their special charge till further orders, and further take cognizance of all and every trespass that has or may be committed either by Jo Smith or any other person on or about the same and bear these things in mind for the day of retribution is close at hand and then you will have further use for such knowledge you may come in possession of further that you will pass and repass about the or any other place you please without interruption as you will notice on the opposite side [p.
