23 Dec. 1801–after 28 Jan. 1846. Tavern keeper, hotel keeper. Born in New York City. Son of John Mills and Jane. Married first Eliza Ann Genette Dunn, 24 Mar. 1833, in New York City. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by 1838. Resided in Missouri, in 1838. Moved to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, by 1840. Moved to Lima, Adams Co., by Oct. 1840. Lima branch organized at his home, 23 Oct. 1840. Resided in fourth ward of Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, ca. 1842. Operated Loomis Hotel with Reuben H. Loomis, in Nauvoo. Owned and operated Masonic Hall Hotel, in Nauvoo. Wife died, June 1843, in Nauvoo. Sworn in as policeman for city of Nauvoo, 29 Dec. 1843. Married second Ann Wood, 10 Sept. 1843, in Nauvoo. Ordained an elder, by 28 Jan. 1846.
