23 Sept. 1805–ca. 30 Jan. 1864. Born in Smith Co., Tennessee. Son of John Young and Abey Bibb Witcher. Married Nancy Robinson, 21 Feb. 1829, in Sumner Co., Tennessee. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by Dec. 1840. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by July 1843. Ordained an elder, 13 July 1843. Member of Nauvoo Legion. Appointed to serve exploration mission to Oregon and California, 1844. Appointed to serve mission to Tennessee, 15 Apr. 1844. Ordained a high priest, 9 Feb. 1845. Moved to Richardson’s Point, Van Buren Co., Iowa, by Mar. 1846. Moved to Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, by 1850. Baptized into Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 9 Dec. 1862. Served mission to Nebraska, beginning June 1863. Died near Nebraska City, Otoe Co., Nebraska.
