Palmer, Ambrose
Biography
15 Sept. 1784–before Sept. 1838. Farmer, tavern keeper, surveyor, glass worker, manufacturer, justice of the peace. Born at Winchester, Litchfield Co., Connecticut. Moved to Trumbull Co., Ohio, by 1807. Married Lettis (Lettice) Hawkins of Castleton, Rutland Co., Vermont, ca. 1810. Served in War of 1812 as captain of an Ohio company. Masonic lodge meetings held at his tavern in Vernon Township, Trumbull Co., 1814–1817. Moved to Norton, Medina Co., Ohio, 1818. Elected justice of the peace in Norton, Apr. 1818. Moved to New Portage, Medina Co., after 1820; returned to Norton, by June 1830; returned to New Portage, by 1833. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Apr. 1833, in New Portage. Presiding elder at New Portage, 1834. Moved to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, by Sept. 1836. Resident of Far West, June 1838. Died at Far West.
