Biography
21 May 1773–22 July 1848. Farmer. Born at Windham, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire. Son of Asael Smith and Mary Duty. Moved to Dunbarton, Hillsborough Co., New Hampshire, 15 Apr. 1774; to Derryfield (later Manchester), Hillsborough Co., New Hampshire, 1778; and to Tunbridge, Orange Co., Vermont, 1791. Married Elizabeth Schellenger of Royalton, Windsor Co., Vermont, 21 Mar. 1802. Moved to Stockholm, St. Lawrence Co., New York, 1809. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Lyman E. Johnson, June 1835, at Stockholm. Migrated to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1836. Appointed to Kirtland high council, 3 Sept. 1837. Moved to Iowa Territory, 1839. Appointed to Iowa stake high council, 5 Oct. 1839. Ordained a patriarch, 7 Oct. 1844, in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois. Died at Iowaville, Van Buren Co., Iowa.
