1810–25 Jan. 1864. Merchant, farmer. Born in Scotland. Immigrated to U.S. and lived in New York City, by 1837. Partner in firm of Bailey, Keeler & Remsen, 1837. Married Evelina White, 19 Dec. 1839, in Fishkill, Dutchess Co., New York. Moved to Crocker’s Grove (later in Osco Township), Henry Co., Illinois, fall 1848. Henry Co. Circuit Court clerk, 1850–1852. Served as Illinois senator from Henry Co., Jan. 1853–Mar. 1854. Appointed corresponding secretary for Henry Co. Agricultural Society at its organization, 16 Feb. 1853. Moved to Geneseo, Henry Co., by 1860. Died in Geneseo.
