Biography
11 May 1806–7 Aug. 1878. Teacher, merchant, bookseller, editor. Born in Kennebunkport, York Co., District of Maine. Son of Nathaniel Lord and Phebe Walker. Graduated from college, 1826. Married Ernestine Libby, 1831, in Kennebunkport. Moved to New York City, by 1834. Became partner in Leavitt, Lord & Co. Moved to Portland, Cumberland Co., Maine, by 1838. Purchased approximately 1,537 acres of Shelby Co., Missouri, land with Jonathan Leavitt, William Robinson, and Harrison Libby, 1 Apr. 1839. Moved to Shelby Co., by June 1840. Business firm among defendants in Russell v. JS et al., in Painesville, Lake Co., Ohio. Moved to St. Louis, by 1844. Moved back to Kennebunkport, by June 1847. Moved back to Portland, by 1851. Editor of Congregational church journal Christian Mirror. Died in Portland.
