Biography
Ca. 1811–6 July 1862. Mechanic, farmer. Son of Leman Copley and Sally Cooley. Moved to Madison, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1815. Moved to Thompson, Geauga Co., by 1820. Baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by 31 Oct. 1832. Appointed to serve mission to the East with Doctor Philastus Hurlbut, 19 Mar. 1833, at Kirtland, Geauga Co. Excommunicated for refusing to fulfill mission, 21 June 1833. Married first Cornelia Barrett, 23 July 1834, and second Lydia Benson 3 Nov. 1838, both in Geauga Co. Moved to Madison, Lake Co., Ohio, by 1850. Moved to Mitchell, Sheboygan Co., Wisconsin, by 1860. Served in Civil War in Company I of First Regiment of Wisconsin Volunteers. Died at Corinth, Tishomingo Co., Mississippi while serving in Civil War.
