27 May 1807–26 Apr. 1884. Artist, portrait painter. Born in Cold Spring Harbor, Suffolk Co., New York. Son of Jacob Rogers and Elisabeth Bunce. Moved to New York City, by 1827. Married first Catherine, ca. 1831. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by 1841. Ordained an elder, 29 Nov. 1841, in New York City. Painted portraits of JS and Hyrum Smith, Sept. 1842. Appointed secretary of church conference in New York City, 4 Sept. 1844. Appointed presiding elder in New York City, Feb. 1847. Excommunicated, fall 1847. Moved to Huntington, Suffolk Co., between 1858 and 1860. Married second Maria, before June 1880. Moved to Cold Spring Harbor, by June 1880. Died at Cold Spring Harbor.
