Sayers, Edward
Biography
9 Feb. 1800–17 July 1861. Horticulturalist. Born in Canterbury, Kent Co., England. Son of Edward Sayers and Mary. Married Ruth D. Vose, 23 Jan. 1841, in St. Louis. Purchased land in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, from JS and Emma Smith, 19 May 1841. Moved to Nauvoo, before 1842. JS hid at Sayers’s home, Aug. 1842, to avoid arrest for his alleged complicity in attempt to kill former Missouri governor Lilburn W. Boggs. Migrated to Utah Territory with Silas Richards's pioneer company, summer 1849. Lived at Salt Lake City for remainder of life.
