Biography
Apr. 1808–11 Nov. 1866. Teacher, lawyer, judge. Born in Madison Co., New York. Graduated from Hamilton College, 1832, in Clinton, Oneida Co., New York. Studied law, ca. 1832, in Canadaigua, Ontario Co., New York. Moved to Painesville, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1833. Moved to Cleveland, 1833. Married Martha Ten Eyck Smith, 22 Dec. 1835, in Cleveland. Partner in law firms of Payne and Willson, 1835–1844; Payne, Willson, and Wade, 1844–1846; Hitchcock, Willson, and Wade, 1846–1850; and Willson, Wade, and Wade, 1850–1855. Served as U.S. district court judge for northern district of Ohio, 1855–1866.
