Rolfe, Ianthis Jerome
Biography
8 Sept. 1826–14 Nov. 1907. Miner, newspaper publisher, insurance agent, tax collector, distiller. Born in Rumford, Oxford Co., Maine. Son of Samuel Jones Rolfe and Elizabeth Hathaway. Possibly baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his parents, 1834. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1834; to Caldwell Co., Missouri, 1835; to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, before 1840; to Utah Co., Utah Territory, before 1851; to Nevada City, Nevada Co., California, 13 May 1851; and to Waloupa, Nevada Co., 1852. Returned to Nevada City, before 1854. Married Emily Lindsey, 31 Aug. 1854, in Boston. Served as U.S. Deputy Revenue Collector, 1870–1885. Appointed notary public by California governor, 25 Apr. 1889. Died at Nevada City.
