Hawn (Haun), Jacob
Biography
13 Jan. 1804–27 Jan. 1860. Miller, builder, carpenter. Born in Genesee Co., New York. Son of Henry Hawn. Consistently spelled surname as “Hawn” throughout life, but many contemporary records spelled name as “Haun.” Married Harriet Elizabeth Pierson, 18 Nov. 1833, in either New Jersey or New York. Moved to Wisconsin. Moved to Shoal Creek area of what became Caldwell Co., Missouri, by Dec. 1835. Built mill and called settlement Hawn’s Mill. Survived attack at Hawn’s Mill, 1838. Moved to Oregon City, Clackamas District (later in Clackamas Co.), Oregon Country, 1843; to Moores Valley (likely near present-day Yamhill), Yamhill Co., Oregon Country, 1846; and to Lafayette, Yamhill Co., fall 1846. Died in Lafayette.
