Ralston, James Harvey
Biography
12 Oct. 1807–9 May 1864. Soldier, lawyer, judge, politician. Born in Bourbon Co., Kentucky. Son of John Ralston and Elizabeth Neely. Served in Black Hawk War, 1832. Married first Jane S. Alexander, 1833, in Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois. Member of Illinois House of Representatives, 1836–1838. Circuit judge, 1837. Member of Illinois Senate, 1840–1844. Served in Mexican War as captain and assistant quartermaster, 26 June 1846–3 Mar. 1849. Wife died, 1847. Moved to California, by 1850. Member of California’s first state senate. Married second Harriet N. Jackson, 20 Oct. 1853, in New York City. Moved to Utah Territory (later in Nevada Territory), ca. 1860; lived at Austin, Lander Co., Nevada Territory, by 1863. Died near Austin.
