Biography

27 May 1816–7 Feb. 1899. Merchant, stonecutter, teacher, farmer, attorney, postmaster. Born at Lima, Livingston Co., New York. Son of John Porter Rollins and Keziah Ketura Van Benthuysen. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1 June 1832, at Independence, Jackson Co., Missouri. Married Eveline Walker, 4 Sept. 1838, at Shoal Creek, Caldwell Co., Missouri. Moved to Iowa Territory, 1838. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, Dec. 1843. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley with Willard Richards pioneer company, 1848. Appointed to settle in California, 1851. Appointed to California branch high council, 5 July 1851. Elected treasurer of San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., California, 5 June 1854. Appointed district attorney for San Bernardino, Dec. 1854. Helped settle Minersville, Beaver Co., Utah Territory. Appointed bishop of Lower Beaver Ward. Elected to Utah territorial House of Representatives, Aug. 1867. Died near present-day Fort Bridger, Uinta Co., Wyoming.
