29 May 1791–10 July 1880. Farmer. Born in Warwick, Orange Co., New York. Son of John Newberry and Jemima Benedict. Married first Mary Smith, 24 Aug. 1811. Moved to Brownhelm, Lorain Co., Ohio, by 1830. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1831. Moved to Jackson Co., Missouri; to Clay Co., Missouri; and to Caldwell Co., Missouri. Ordained an elder, 11 Apr. 1839. Moved to Lee Co., Iowa Territory, by 1840. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1842. Wife died, 1842. Married second Nancy Brown, 3 Oct. 1843, in Nauvoo. Ordained a high priest, by 22 Dec. 1845. Moved to Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, by 1850. Moved to Indian Creek, Mills Co., Iowa, by 1860. Baptized into Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4 Aug. 1861. Moved to Grove Township, Pottawattamie Co., by July 1879. Died in Pottawattamie Co.
