Taylor, James
Biography
21 June 1783–27 May 1870. Government excise worker, farmer, joiner, carpenter. Born in Ackenthwaite, Westmoreland, England. Son of Edward Taylor and Elizabeth Saul. Christened Anglican. Moved to Lancaster, Lancashire, England, before 1805. Married Agnes Taylor, 23 Dec. 1805, in Kirkoswald, Cumberland, England. Moved to Milnthorpe, Westmoreland, by 1808; to Liverpool, Lancashire, by 1814; to Hale, Westmoreland, 1819; and to Toronto, 1832. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by son John Taylor. Moved to Oquawka, Henderson Co., Illinois, by Aug. 1842. Twice housed JS to hide him from his enemies, 1842. Ordained a high priest, by 1845. Migrated to Salt Lake City, 1847. Died in Salt Lake City.
