Biography
11 Aug. 1795–24 Dec. 1877. Policeman, alderman, farmer. Born in Rupert, Bennington Co., Vermont. Son of Martin Harmon and Triphina Pool. Moved to Lewis, Essex Co., Vermont, ca. 1801. Served in War of 1812. Moved to Castleton, Rutland Co., Vermont, June 1813. Moved to Sangerfield, Oneida Co., New York, May 1815; to Georgetown, Madison Co., New York, ca. 1816; to Walcott, Seneca Co., New York, ca. late 1817–early 1818; and to Springfield Township, Erie Co., Pennsylvania, ca. late 1818–early 1819. Married Anna Barnes, 29 Apr. 1819, in Springfield. Moved to Conneaut Township, Erie Co., Dec. 1819; to Conneaut, Ashtabula Co., Ohio, Apr. 1837; and to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, Aug. 1837. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Elijah Cheney, 28 Apr. 1838. Moved to Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois, Dec. 1838. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, Oct. 1840. Ordained a priest, 20 Dec. 1841, in Nauvoo. Ordained an elder, 6 Apr. 1842, in Nauvoo. Left to serve mission to Wisconsin Territory with his brother Alphus, fall 1842. Member of Nauvoo Legion. Served as police sergeant, 1843–1846, in Nauvoo. Arrested for riot and destruction of Nauvoo Expositor press; discharged 17 June 1844. Appointed president of Eleventh Quorum of the Seventy, 8 Oct. 1844, in Nauvoo. Moved near Winter Quarters, U.S. unorganized territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), Nov. 1846. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley, 1849. Served as Salt Lake City alderman, 1849–1861. Served colonizing mission to southern Utah Territory, 1861–1866. Moved to Holden, Millard Co., Utah Territory, 1866. Died in Holden.
