Biography
28 Jan. 1790–2 Feb. 1877. Lawyer, newspaper editor, government official. Born in Virginia. Son of William Wilson and Catharine Yancey. Served in War of 1812. Married first Percilla McGowen (McCoun). Married second Martha Woods, 24 June 1817, at Augusta Co., Virginia. Married third Ann Robertson Pullian, 27 Nov. 1823/1824, in Saline Co., Missouri. Circuit attorney, 1828, at Howard Co., Missouri. Inspector general of first division of Missouri state militia. Served in Black Hawk War, 1832. Ran for U.S. representative from Missouri, 1838; defeated. Commissioner of Utah Territory, 1849. Appointed Indian agent, 1849. Appointed naval agent for West Coast, ca. 1850. Resident of San Francisco, 1870. Died at Suisun, Solano Co., California.
