Biography

19 July 1834–28 May 1859. Clerk, reporter. Born in London. Son of Samuel Harris Hawkins and Charlotte Savage. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by John Banks, 23 Oct. 1848. Immigrated to U.S. with his family; arrived in New Orleans, 26 Dec. 1849. Lived in St. Louis, 1850. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley; arrived late Sept. 1852. Worked as clerk in Church Historian’s Office. Ordained a seventy, 7 Feb. 1854. Served as assistant secretary and later secretary to Utah territorial legislature, beginning Dec. 1855. Married Sarah Kay, 31 Jan. 1856, in Salt Lake City. Served as recorder of Great Salt Lake Co., Utah Territory. Died in Salt Lake City.
