Biography
Ca. 1809–ca. May 1897. Millwright. Born in New York. Son of Job L. Lewis and Margaret Lowers. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, probably at Westfield, Chautauque Co., New York. Ordained an elder, 13 May 1835, in Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio. Appointed to serve mission to Pennsylvania, 24 May 1835. Excommunicated, 28 Sept. 1835. Married Mandana Isabel Gould in Illinois. Moved to Black River, Crawford Co., Wisconsin, by June 1850. Elected superintendent of schools in La Crosse, La Crosse Co., Wisconsin, Apr. 1851. Elected La Crosse assessor, 1857, 1858. Moved to El Paso, Pierce Co., Wisconsin, by June 1880. Moved to Salem, Marion Co., Oregon, before 1897. Died at Salem.
