12 Nov. 1806–19 Mar. 1876. Photographer, accountant, bookkeeper, clerk. Born in New Marlboro, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts. Son of Nathaniel Foster and Polly. Married first Harriet Eliza Burr. Married second Mary Ann Graham. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by Dec. 1840. Appointed clerk of church conference at New York City, 4 Dec. 1840. Served as branch president, 1841–1844, in New York City. Served as clerk of church conference, 1843, in New York City. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1844. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Served as member of central correspondence committee for JS presidential campaign, 1844. Admitted to Council of Fifty, 1 Mar. 1845. Married third Ann Mariah Still, before 1846. Moved back to New York, ca. 1846. Excommunicated, 1846, in New York. Affiliated with James J. Strang's Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1846–1849. Married fourth Eliza Leeman Ulrich, before 1870. Moved to Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, by 1870. Died in Salt Lake City.
