Thompson, Mercy Rachel Fielding

Biography

15 June 1807–15 Sept. 1893. Born in Honeydon, Bedfordshire, England. Daughter of John Fielding and Rachel Ibbotson. Immigrated to Upper Canada, 1832. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Parley P. Pratt, 21 May 1836, near Toronto. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, May 1837. Married Robert Blashell Thompson, 4 June 1837, in Kirtland. Returned to Canada with husband, when he was appointed to serve a mission there. Moved to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, May 1838; to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, Feb. 1839; and to Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, Apr. 1839. Husband died, 24 Aug. 1841. Joined Female Relief Society of Nauvoo, 24 Mar. 1842. “Married or sealed” to Hyrum Smith “for time,” 11 Aug. 1843, in Nauvoo. Moved to Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), Sept. 1846. Migrated to Salt Lake City, 24 Sept. 1847. Died in Salt Lake City.
