10 Apr. 1801–8 May 1888. Joiner, farmer. Born in Hubbard, Trumbull Co., Ohio. Son of William West and Mary Ayers. Married first Mary Hulet, 25 Oct. 1828, in Portage Co., Ohio. Moved to Nelson, Portage Co., by 1830. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ordained an elder by Harvey Whitlock, 20 July 1833, in Jackson Co., Missouri. Married second Adaline Louisa Follett, 13 Mar. 1836, in Clay Co., Missouri. Moved to Caldwell Co., Missouri, by 1838. Appointed to serve mission to Illinois to campaign for JS as candidate for U.S. president, 15 Apr. 1844. Moved to Van Buren Co., Iowa, before 1847. Excommunicated, 20 Apr. 1851. Moved to Silver Creek, Mills Co., Iowa, before 1856. Married third Julia A. Flemming, 11 Nov. 1884, in Mills Co. Died in Malvern, Mills Co.
