Biography

1814–23 Aug. 1894. Millwright, farmer. Born in Bainbridge Township, Chenango Co., New York. Son of Hezekiah Peck and Martha Long. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ca. 1830. Moved from New York to Ohio and then to Kaw Township, Jackson Co., Missouri, Apr.–July 1831. Married Clarissa M. Member of Latter-day Saint delegation that attempted to negotiate equitable solution to “Mormon War” with General Samuel D. Lucas, 31 Oct. 1838. Disaffected from church. Prosecution witness at Nov. 1838 preliminary hearing of JS and others. Wrote extended account of his Missouri experience. Moved to Bainbridge, by 1840; to Cortlandville, Cortland Co., New York, by 1850; and to Afton, Chenango Co., by 1870. Died at Afton.
