14 July 1813–7 July 1865. Mill manager. Born in Plymouth Co., Massachusetts. Son of Nathan Savery and Elizabeth Gammons. Family resided in Middleborough, Plymouth Co., 1820. Moved to Fairhaven, Bristol Co., Massachusetts, by 1830. Married Betsey H. Keen, 24 Jan. 1834, in Fairhaven. Moved to Pittsburgh, by 1838. Patented machine for making wrought iron spikes and nails, 2 Apr. 1838, in Pittsburgh. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by 24 Sept. 1843. Served as president of Pittsburgh branch, 1843–1844. Patented improved process of uniting iron and steel with other metals, 11 Aug. 1863, in Pittsburgh. Baptized into Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 9 Oct. 1864, in Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Buried in Pittsburgh.
