Biography
Nov. 1800–10 May 1870. Politician, Lawyer, Farmer. Born near Staunton, Augusta Co., Virginia. Moved to Franklin, Howard Co., Missouri Territory, by 1820. Married Margaret (Peggie) Snoddy, 18 May 1826. Served as clerk of circuit and county courts in Randolph Co., Missouri, ca. 1828–1840. Admitted to the bar. Brigadier general in Missouri militia during “Mormon War,” 1838. Elected U.S. senator, 1862. Died at Marshall, Saline Co., Missouri.
