Stevens, Roswell
Biography
17 Nov. 1808–4 May 1880. Millwright, laborer. Born in Mount Pleasant, Brantford Township, Wentworth Co., Gore District (later in Ontario), Upper Canada. Son of Roswell Stevens and Sibbel Spencer. Married Maria Doyle, 1827. Taught gospel by JS, 1833; baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by John P. Greene, spring 1834. Moved to Caldwell Co., Missouri. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois. Member of Mormon Battalion. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley, arriving July 1847. Returned to Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska). Returned to Salt Lake Valley with John G. Smith pioneer company, arriving Sept. 1851. Settled in Mountainville (later Alpine), Utah Co., Utah Territory. Moved to Coalville, Summit Co., Utah Territory, by 1870. Moved to what became Bluff, San Juan Co., Utah. Died in Bluff.
