Williams, Samuel
Biography
22 Mar. 1789–10 Nov. 1855. Born in Russell, Hampden Co., Massachusetts. Son of Samuel Williams and Azubah Warner. Married first Ruth Bishop, 29 Mar. 1810. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3 Apr. 1837. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, Nov. 1837; to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, by Jan. 1839; and to Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, by Oct. 1839. Ordained an elder, Oct. 1839. Member of Nauvoo temple building committee, 1841–1846. Wife died, 25 Aug. 1846. Ordained a high priest, 24 Dec. 1846, in Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska). Married second Rebecca Pierce. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley with David Evans pioneer company, arriving Aug. 1850. Moved to Ogden, Weber Co., Utah Territory, by 1853. Died in Ogden.
