Denton, Solomon Wilbur
Biography
Apr. 1816–Mar. 1864. Printer, postmaster. Born in New York. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Boarded with JS, beginning 11 Dec. 1833, in Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio. Participated in Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri, 1834. Married Fanny M. Stanley, 30 July 1835, in Geauga Co. Ordained an elder, 1 Mar. 1835, at Kirtland. Served mission to Pennsylvania and New York with Don Carlos Smith, 1836. Ordained a high priest, ca. 1836. Worked in Kirtland printing office, 1836–1837. Disaffected from church, winter/spring 1837. Witness for prosecution in Ohio v. JS for Threatening to Take Life. Moved to Pontiac, Oakland Co., Michigan, by 1840. Postmaster of Pontiac, 1844–1848, 1853–1860. Served in Civil War. Buried in Pontiac.
