Biography
22 Dec. 1818–16 Nov. 1888. Farmer, carpenter. Born in Middlebury, Genesee Co., New York. Son of Asahel Perry and Polly Chadwick. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4 Aug. 1833, in Middlebury. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, May 1836; to Daviess Co., Missouri, spring 1838; and to Caldwell Co., Missouri, fall 1838. Married first Susannah Collista Hidden, 6 Jan. 1840, in Marion Co., Missouri. Ordained an elder by JS, 6 Apr. 1840, in Nauvoo. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by June 1840. Moved to Columbus, Adams Co., Illinois, Jan. 1843. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Served on committee to draft constitution for Young Gentleman and Ladies Relief Society of Nauvoo. Left to serve mission to Connecticut, 22 May 1843. Married second Anna Marie Hulett, 18 Jan. 1844, in Nauvoo. Elected lieutenant in Nauvoo Legion, 11 May 1844. Among those arrested for destruction of Nauvoo Expositor press. Moved to Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), 1846. Moved to Mount Pisgah, Clarke Co., Iowa, by June 1847. Served mission to New York, 1848. Arrived in Salt Lake Valley, 23 Sept. 1850, and settled in Springville, Utah Co., Utah Territory. Ordained a high priest, 20 Mar. 1851, in Provo, Utah Co. Elected to Springville city council, 4 Apr. 1853. Served colonizing mission to southern Utah Territory, 1855. Returned to Springville; elected to city council, 1855 and 1860. Served in Utah Black Hawk War. Served missions to eastern U.S., 18 Nov. 1869–June 1870, 14 Nov. 1871–8 June 1872. Died in Springville.
