Biography
3 Jan. 1810–18 Dec. 1879. Schoolteacher, blacksmith. Born in Greenwich, Washington Co., New York. Son of Samuel Post and Mary Sprague. Moved to Sparta Township, Crawford Co., Pennsylvania, after 1830. Married Jane Force, ca. 1835. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Stephen Winchester, 14 July 1835. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, Nov. 1835, where he taught school. Ordained an elder by Alvah Beman, 27 Jan. 1836. Ordained a seventy by Sylvester Smith, 13 Feb. 1836, in Kirtland. Returned to Crawford, Apr. 1836. Served mission to Pennsylvania and New York, Sept. 1836–May 1837. Taught school at Venango Co., Pennsylvania, Dec. 1838–Mar. 1839. Served mission to Michigan, May–Sept. 1839. Taught school at La Harpe, Hancock Co., Illinois. Nov. 1843–Apr. 1844. Appointed to serve mission to Pennsylvania to campaign for JS as candidate for U.S. president, Apr. 1844. Returned to Crawford Co., Apr. 1844. Joined with James J. Strang’s Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1846. Affiliated with Sidney Rigdon’s Church of Christ, 1857. Moved to Attica, Marion Co., Iowa, Oct. 1864. Moved to West Lynne, Manitoba, Canada, where he died.
