Biography

27 Mar. 1809–before 1896. Farmer, carpenter, sawmill operator. Born in Schuyler, Herkimer Co., New York. Son of James Slitor and Fannie Mandigo. Married Jane Vanzandt. Moved to Burton, Geauga Co., Ohio, by 1830. Moved to Potter, Yates Co., New York, by 1834. Moved back to Burton, by July 1836. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., by Oct. 1836. Defendant, along with JS and Hiram Dayton, in E. Holmes v. Dayton et al. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, before 1837. Ordained an elder, 26 Sept. 1837, in Kirtland. Moved to northern Missouri, by Sept. 1838; back to Potter, by June 1840; and to Monona Township, Clayton Co., Iowa, 1853. Elected judge for Monona Township school district, 3 May 1858.
