Biography
10 June 1787–7 Feb. 1884. Laundress, nurse. Born in Beverly, Essex Co., Massachusetts. Daughter of Henry Jaques and Lucinda Hughes. Lived in Boston, 1827–1830. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by E. Harris, 12 July 1831. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1833. Directed by JS revelation to consecrate money to church and receive an inheritance in Zion, 8 Mar. 1833; moved to Missouri, by July 1833. Lived in Independence, Jackson Co., Missouri, fall 1833. Attended to sick in Camp of Israel, 1834. Married Daniel Shearer, ca. 1839, in Missouri. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1842. Went by last name Shearer until at least 22 Jan. 1846; went by maiden name, Jaques, by the time she crossed the plains. Left Elkhorn River, twenty-seven miles west of Winter Quarters (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), in Charles C. Rich’s pioneer company, 21 June 1847; arrived in Salt Lake Valley, 2 Oct. 1847. Died in Salt Lake City.
