Bagby, Walter
Biography
3 Apr. 1801–after July 1845. School commissioner, tax collector. Born in Amherst Co., Virginia. Son of John Bagby and Matilda Davis. Moved to Barren Co., Kentucky, 1817. Married Eliza McClure, 2 Jan. 1831, in Barren Co. Moved to Carthage, Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1835. Among original corporators of Carthage Female Seminary, 15 Feb. 1837. Appointed Hancock Co. school commissioner, Mar. 1841. Served as Hancock Co. tax collector, by Mar. 1841. Moved to Louisiana, where he died.
