Biography
9 Oct. 1793–ca. 1847. Born at Rupert, Bennington Co., Vermont. Married Sophronia Smith Stoddard, 11 Feb. 1838, at Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio. Ordained an elder in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Reuben Hedlock, 26 Feb. 1838, at Kirtland. Left Ohio for Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, May 1838. Fled to Illinois, Feb. 1839. Lived at Macedonia (later Webster), Hancock Co., Illinois, when appointed to conduct election for board of trustees for that community, 3 Mar. 1843. Ordained a high priest, 8 Oct. 1844, at Nauvoo, Hancock Co. Built wagons in Nauvoo in preparation for Latter-day Saint exodus in 1846 but apparently remained in Illinois.
