Hancock’s Ferry, Missouri
Summary
One of several ferries that operated on Missouri River between sites in Jackson and Clay counties. In Jackson Co., ferry likely docked on south shore of river at Choteau’s Landing, six miles north of Colesville settlement. In Clay Co., ferry docked on north shore of river near Calisse Montargee’s Landing, eight miles northwest of Independence. During Nov. 1833 expulsion from Jackson Co., Saints fled northward, using this and other ferries to cross river into Clay Co. See also “.”
