Abatement
Summary
In pleadings: the overthrow of an action in consequence of some error in jurisdiction, the nature of the plaintiff or defendant, the writ or the pleadings themselves, etc. In chancery practice: the suspension, but not overthrow, of a suit due to the lack of proper capable parties. In contracts: a creditor’s reduction in a debt due by the payor or debtor.
