Fellowship

Used generally to denote sense of community and friendship among members of the church; also used more specifically to indicate good standing as a member of the church or of an organization within the church. A church member could have the hand of fellowship withdrawn—that is, be excommunicated—for conduct not in harmony with established revelation and doctrine, leading to the loss of authority and ecclesiastical licenses. The phrase cut off was also used to describe excommunication. Repentant members could be received back into fellowship, and have their privileges and licenses restored. In some cases, rebaptism and reordination were required.
