To Joseph Smith Jun.
To all people to whom these presents shall come Greeting know ye that We and Elsa [Jacobs] Johnson his wife of the said of the township of . County of and State of for the consideration of Two hundred twenty two dollars and thirty cents received to our full Satisfaction of Joseph Smith Junr. of the town of County of and State of do give grant bargain Sell & confirm unto the said Joseph Smith Jun the following described tract or lot of land situate in . township No. 9 in the Ninth range of townships in the in the State of and which is also in the County of and is known as part of lot number 30 and is bounded as follows to wit. On the South by land formerly owned by Isaac Mo[o]re. Beginning near the North east corner of the Said Mores land in the centre of the road leading from to and running west on the north line of said land twenty two rods. thence north Seventeen rods to a Stake marked No 1. thence east to the west line of the lot owned by the Methodist Episcopal Society on which their Meeting house stands. Thence South to the southwest corner of said Societies lot, thence east to the centre of the road before mentioned thence Southwardly to the place of beginning. Containing one acre & one hundred and fifty four and half rods. Being the tract or parcel of land heretofore deeded by the Said & Wife to Joseph Smith Jun and, to his Successor in the office of President of the Church of Christ which deed is Supposed to be illegal for which reason this last deed is executed. Be the Same more or less. To have and to hold the above granted and bargained premises with the appurtenances thereof unto the Said Joseph Smith Jun his heirs, and assigns forever to their own proper use and behoof And also I the said do for myself and heirs executors & administrators covenant with the said Joseph Smith Jun his heirs & assigns that at & until the ensealing of these presents I was well Seised of these premises and as a good indefeasible estate in fee simple and have good right to bargain and sell the same in manner and form as is above written and that the Same is free from all incumbrances whatsoever. And furthermore I the said do by these presents bind myself my heirs forever to warrant and defend the above granted and bargained premises to him the said Joseph Smith Jun and to his heirs and assigns against all lawful claims & demands whatsoever. And I the said Elsa— Johnson do hereby remise release & forever unto the said Joseph Smith Jun his heirs & assigns all my right & title of dower in and to the above described premises. In witness whereof we have hereunto Set our hands and Seals this fourth day of January A D One thousand eight hundred and thirty Seven

Personally appeared & Elsa Johnson to me personally known as the Signers & Sealers of the above instrument and acknowledged that they did voluntarily Sign— and Seal the same and that the Same is their free act and will. And I having fully made known and explained to the said Elsa Johnson the contents of the above deed and having likewise examined her separate & apart from her said . She declared that she did of her own free will & acccord voluntarily Sign Seal acknowledge and as her free act and deed deliver the Same without the force coersion or compulsion of her said and that She is Still Satisfied with the Same.
